Gelibolu (Gallipoli) is a town in Canakkale Province in Turkey. It is located on the European part of Turkey, six hundred kilometers far from Istanbul.
This is the biggest town of Gallipoli Peninsula region with a population of twenty-nine thousands of people.
The town attracts tourists from all over the world by its ancient history. This place was found in the fifth century B.C. and in old time was knows as an important military warehouse.
During the Crimea War in eighteenth fifty-four, the town was occupied by French and British armies. Turks have kept the cemetery for french soldiers.
Piri Reis, Turkish cartographer, and geographer was born here. He was the first who officially drew the map of America. the center of the town you can find his monument.
The famous people who were born in Gelibolu are Dimitar Aristides (Bulgarian Macedonian-Odrin Opalchenets), Piri Reis, Ahmed Bican (Turkish writer), Mustafa Ali (Turkish historian), and Sofia Vembo (a Greek singer).

How to Get Gelibolu
The best way to get Gelibolu is to travel from Istanbul.
By Bus
Firstly, you will need to get to Istanbul. There are two airports in Istanbul (Sabiha International Airport and New Istanbul Airport IGA).
Istanbul Otogar is the main international bus station that is situated in BayramPasa Region (Coach Subway station) from which you can get to Gelibolu and all the cities of Gallipoli region.
The company’s name that serves buses to Gelibolu is TRUVA.
You can buy the ticket directly in the station or buy it online. The ticket price is fifty Turkish Liras (TRL). For today (May, two thousand nineteenth) dollar costs about six Turkish liras.
The bus trip duration is about four-five hours. When it is rush hour in Istanbul the trip can take about seven hours. The best time to take a trip is early morning (before seven AM).
By Plane
There are no airports in Gelibolu.
The nearest Airport to Gelibolu is Cannakale Airport (Barbaros Mh Şht. Gürol Cd Pk:17020, 17020 Çanakkale Merkez). It serves flights from Ankara.
By Ferry
Gelibolu is connected with towns Lapseki and Cardak. It is also possible to get Gelibolu from Cannakale: you need to buy a ticket to ferry Cannakale - Eceabat and then take a bus to Gelibolu or use direct bus Cannakale-Gelibolu (the ferry trip is included in the price of the bus ticket).
By Car
Use the highway D110/E84 from Istanbul, the highway D110/E90 from the Greek border, D550/E87 to North (from Edirne).
